SE Systems joins Willie Nelson's Outlaw Tour
Over the summer, SE Systems joined a couple of national tours working the larger amphitheater circuit. In June our crew went out with Willie Nelson’s “Outlaw” tour for number of dates that also included the 4th of July, Willie’s Picnic show in Austin, Texas. These were multi-band events with a constantly changing list of supporting acts playing at each venue. Of course, Willie was the headliner along with artists Alison Krauss, Sturgill Simpson, The Avett Brothers, Old Crow Medicine Show and a number of other top bands on the bill in different cities.

As soon as the gear was back in North Carolina, they went out again for the “Dark Side of the Mule Tour” with Gov’t Mule and Warren Haynes. Opening the show were The Avett Brothers and The Magpie Salute. That leg of Warren’s tour ran for a couple of weeks in July and August. Willie’s “Outlaw” tour goes back out in September with Van Morrison, Tedeschi Trucks and Sturgill Simpson joining Willie and others for a few dates. SE Systems will be with them again for this 2nd leg of the tour.
Willie Nelson's Midas Heritage 3000 Analog Console
Our duties included handling the overall audio system, hanging the main line array, powering all wedges and providing the consoles for the opening bands. A DiGiCo SD10 was used in monitor position for support acts along with a DiGiCo SD10-24 that was available for the support acts at FOH. The acts that carried consoles were routed to our DiGiCo SD11 at FOH as a matrix mixer. Dolby Lake processors at FOH were used for system drive and EQ.
The speaker system used for the tour was our JBL Vertec line array system. We used 24-VT4889’s for the mains, 16-VT4888’s for out fills, 20-VT4880’s for subs and 6 4887’s for front fills. Our Nexo 45N floor wedges were used as stage monitors.

Our lead Systems Tech for the tour was Tyler Walters along with Stitch Sink and handful of associate techs helping out at different times over the summer. Our gear filled a tractor-trailer from top to bottom; there was not much room for any extras.
This was a great opportunity to work with some new clients and put our equipment out on the road. Check out either of these tours with some of the best talent around and a top-notch sound system.
