Allen & Heath Workshop

SE Systems hosted an Allen & Heath workshop recently at our Greensboro showroom. Kevin Madden the Eastern Sales Manager for Allen & Heath brought in the dLive S and C class digital consoles along with the new SQ line of mixers.

In the digital console race Allen & Heath is often overlooked as a major player. People forget that this company was started in 1969 and built mixers for some of the top British bands including Genesis, Pink Floyd and The Who. Their continued commitment to quality along with a world class R&D team, Allen & Heath is building some of the top consoles on the market.

The dlive S Class is the digital console for touring, broadcast and that high-end installation. The C-Class is more for integration with the corporate, AV users, theaters and Houses of Worship. Both surfaces are offered in 3 different configurations with the S7000 having 36 faders and 2-12” touchscreens down to the C1500 with 12 faders and a single 12” touchscreen.

The heart of the dlive system is the DM and CM MixRack stageboxes that house all the processing and audio in and outs. The MicRacks come in 3 variations to fit any size tour or venue depending on the inputs and routing needed. These consoles deliver a large bang for the buck and should be considered when compared to Digico, Avid and Yamaha’s top of the line desks.

Allen & Heath SQ6

Allen & Heath SQ6

The most impressive product featured was the newest SQ-5 and SQ-6 consoles. These 96khz desks share the same FPGA XCVI core that drives the dlive series. Both are able to process 48 channels with a 36-mix bus. When used one of the dSNAKE stagebox expanders you have an affordable system that stands above the X’s and M’s on the market today.

Allen & Heath SQ5

The SQ-5 is a small footprint, 17-fader/6 layers with 96Khz FPGA processing and a 7” touchscreen. This desk is also rackmountable. The SQ-6 steps up to 25 faders and shares all the high end processing and I/O’s with the SQ-5.

If you are in the market for a high end, fully featured digital console give the SQ a look. This is a brand new series that is shipping now.
